IPL 2024 Points Table: Lucknow Super Giants recorded their first win of the ongoing Indian Premier League season by defeating Punjab Kings by 21 runs in Lucknow on Saturday. The win moved LSG up to 5th on the points table while Punjab Kings slipped to 6th spot. IPL 2024 Points Table: 
1) Chennai Super Kings (CSK): 
After winning their first two matches of the season, Chennai Super Kings are sitting comfortably at the top of the points table. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side have shown that a change of leadership does not necessarily mean a decline in fortunes, and with a healthy net run rate of 1.979, the defending champions will be looking to win a few more matches to secure a play-off spot once again.
2) Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): 
With the arrival of Shreyas Iyer as captain, KKR have been at the peak of their cricket this season. The Kolkata franchise have beaten Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their first two matches of the season and have a healthy net run rate of 1.047.
3) Rajasthan Royals (RR): 
Another team yet to be beaten this season are Rajasthan Royals. The Sanju Samson-led side have looked good this season with a balance of aggressive batsmen, tactful spinners and blazing fast bowlers. The Royals have beaten Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals in their two encounters so far and boast a healthy net run rate of 0.800.
4) Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH): 
SRH began the season with a 4-run defeat in a tightly contested match against Kolkata Knight Riders. However, the Pat Cummins-led side were in their element in Hyderabad on Wednesday when they posted the highest total ever in an IPL match and inflicted a 31-run defeat on Mumbai Indians.
5) Lucknow Super Giants (LSG): 
After losing their first two matches of the season, LSG have bounced back strongly with a win over Punjab Kings on Saturday. The KL Rahul-led side have jumped from 10th to 5th and boast a positive net run rate of 0.025.
6) Punjab Kings (PBKS): 
Punjab Kings seemed to have lost their way after winning their first game of the season against Delhi Capitals. In their two subsequent matches, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side have lost to RCB and LSG and have a net run-rate of -0.337.
7) Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB):
The euphoria of RCB’s WPL win seems to have worn off as the men’s team are yet to find their groove in the IPL 2024 season. Though Virat Kohli has been in fine form and Dinesh Karthik seems to have rediscovered his death-batting magic, RCB as a unit have struggled to get going, recording just one win in their three matches so far.
8) Gujarat Titans (GT): 
After a convincing win over Mumbai Indians in their opening match, Gujarat Titans struggled to find their stride against Chennai Super Kings and were eventually beaten by 63 runs. The drubbing in Chennai also left a hole in the Titans’ net run-rate, which now stands at -1.425.
9 & 10) Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians: 
Both Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians are yet to register a win in the IPL this season, sitting in 9th and 10th place respectively. Delhi Capitals, however, will have a chance to redeem themselves when they take on Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.

Sameer Rizvi expressed happiness that the CSK picked him up in auctions and he is getting a chance to play under the likes of MS Dhoni.
“When I was picked by CSK during the IPL auction I was very happy. It was a dream of mine to meet MS Dhoni. Playing with him was something I hadn’t thought of, but meeting him was a dream. Now that dream has been fulfilled and I’m getting to play alongside him. We have had a lot of net sessions together, and I have a learned lot from him. I have learned from the coaching staff as well. So That’s my aim to learn as much as possible from this team,” Sameer Rizvi said.
CSK is going against the Delhi Capitals today and will look to continue their winning run in the IPL 2024. The defending champions are riding strong on the good opening provided by Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rachin Ravindra, and a responsible middle order in the form of Shivam Dube and Daryl Mitchell.

Watch: In a hilarious bit of play, three Bangladeshi slip fielders combined to drop an easy catch of Prabath Jayasuriya on day two of the second BAN vs SL Test in Chattogram today (March 31).
On the last ball of the 121st over, bowled by Khaled Ahmed, Prabath Jayasuriya, batting on six off eight, edged a full ball outside off as he looked to drive it through covers.
However, he got a thick outside edge that flew at comfortable height to the right of Najmul Hossain Shanto at first slip. Shanto failed to catch the ball on the first two attempts as he grabbed at it. The ball bounced off his hands towards second slip, where Shahadat Hossain, fielding with a helmet on, turned around to grab at it with both hands.

The ball ricocheted again, bouncing off Shahadat’s hands this time, to lob over and behind his head. This time, Zakir Hasan at third slip, also fielding in a helmet, dived full stretch forward to take the rebound, but it fell just short of his extended right hand.
The fielders had a bit of a laugh about it, as Jayasuriya had a reprieve. He ended up scoring 28 as Sri Lanka finished on 531, the highest Test total to include an individual century.

KKR posted a video on their social media platforms where Rinku Singh can be seen humming Arijit Singh’s “Lutt Putt Gaya” starring Shah Rukh, on a flight.
The southpaw asked his senior teammate Russell to sing the same song during their flight and the Windies all-rounder replied,” You don’t sing that song, it’s my song.”
Russell played the match-winning knock for KKR in their season opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He smashed 64 runs off 25 balls which was laced with three fours and seven sixes. While he has picked 4 wickets thus far this season.
The star all-rounder. was a pale shadow of his intimidating self in IPL 2023, managing just 227 runs from 14 matches and snaffling just seven wickets.
My mindset wasn’t right (in 2023). I was thinking about failure more than thinking about going out and doing what I do best. When you have a mindset that I don’t want to get out, I think that’s a negative mindset for me, Russell told reporters.
I think I’ve been allowing myself to be under pressure, because I’ve been thinking too much. It’s all about the mindset, as I said, and now more clear in my approach to every delivery, added Russell.
Russell completed 100 wickets in the IPL on Friday in the mega clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their IPL clash at Chinnnaswamy Stadium. In 114 matches, Russell has taken 100 wickets at an average of 24.05 and a strike rate of 15.57. His best bowling figures are 5/15.

Chennai Super Kings’ Matheesha Pathirana took arguably the catch of the 2024 Indian Premier League season so far, as an enormous leap from the Sri Lankan pacer, followed by a one-handed stunner, resulted in the dismissal of the dangerous David Warner on Sunday. Pathirana, stationed at third man, made no mistake as he cut short the Delhi Capitals opener’s knock on 52 with an extraordinary effort.

The wicket came at an opportune moment for the Super Kings as the duo of Warner and Prithvi Shaw had made things difficult for the CSK bowlers in the middle. After a sluggish start to the innings, both began to find their feet and smashed the bowlers all around the park, accumulating 62 runs in the Powerplay.
Warner reached his half-century in the ninth over of the innings off 32 deliveries, and looked set for a big score before the reverse-lap shot eventually brought about his downfall.
Earlier in the game, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant had won the toss and opted to bat in Visakhapatnam. Shaw was given his first game after he remained on the bench throughout the Capitals’ opening two losses in the 2024 season. Additionally, Kuldeep Yadav also missed out on making into the playing XI due to an injury. CSK, meanwhile, remained unchanged following the two terrific wins to start the campaign.

DC vs CSK IPL 2024 Highlights: Delhi Capitals’ pacers Khaleel Ahmed and Ishant Sharma put an almighty stranglehold on Chennai Super Kings after they batted first and scored 191/5 in 20 overs. Openers Rurutaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra fell to Khaleel and CSK were tottering at 7/2 at the start of the third over. Ajinkya Rahane then gave them some impetus towards the end of the powerplay but CSK could never quite get going in their chase in the middle overs. Rahane eventually fell for 45 off 30, leaving Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube chasing a steepling required run rate in the death overs. Dube eventually fell to Mukesh, his third wicket, which meant that MS Dhoni walked in to bat for the first time this season….Read MoreDelhi Capitals earlier ditched their opening stand of Mitchell Marsh and David Warner by demoting the former and bringing in Prithvi Shaw in his place. While they got off to a sluggish start, both Shaw and Warner took off dramatically towards the end of the powerplay. Warner went past fifty but the stand ended soon thereafter with the Australian falling to a screamer of a catch from Matheesha Pathirana. His innings ended on 52 off 35 after which Shaw was dismissed for 43 off 27.
Pathirana then turned it on with the ball, dismissing Mitchell Marsh and Tristan Stubbs in the same over with two searing yorkers. Pant then let lose and scored his first half-century of the season. He was dismissed by Pathirana on 51 off 32 balls and DC eventually ended their 20 overs with a score of 191/5.
DC would be hoping for a change in fortunes as they play their first home game in Visakhapatnam. DC’s batting order has looked quite frankly out of its depth. They were outplayed quite comprehensively by Punjab Kings in their opening match and then the Rajasthan Royals in their second.
This game in fact features two contradictory batting lineups. While CSK is so packed to the brim with talent that they haven’t needed MS Dhoni to bat at all this season, DC don’t have much apart from their opening pair of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh and then Rishabh Pant. Even there, Pant has made a promising start in his comeback trail but is yet to get a big score, albeit it might still be a bit too early to expect that. Meanwhile, Warner and Marsh have made quick starts but they haven’t quite converted into a significant total. The rest of their lineup has fallen flat with hardly any performances of note.
Moreover, DC also have the tricky task of having to adjust to two home venues very soon. This is technically their first “home” match but it is being played in Visakhapatnam. They will play one more match here before moving to the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi to play the rest of their home games. CSK are at the other end of the form graph. They had crashed and burned the last time Dhoni handed over captaincy to another player in the team but that hasn’t happened at all this time. CSK have looked almost perfect in the two games that they have played and won thus far. The crowd at Visakhapatnam, like the one at the Chepauk this season, would be hoping to get to see Dhoni bat but at the same time, his side would be hoping he won’t have much to do. Dhoni walks in at No.7 after all.
If he does fire today though, it will be a nice throwback moment for longtime Vizag cricket fans in the stadium. For it was at this venue nearly 20 years ago that then-India captain Sourav Ganguly promoted a young Dhoni with shoulder-length hair to No.3 ahead of himself in an ODI against Pakistan and the 23-year-old grabbed that opportunity with both hands and more. Dhoni blasted 148 in just 123 balls, thus leading India to a 58-run win. Now Dhoni and Ganguly return to that venue, both about 20 years older with the former possibly playing the final leg of his illustrious career and the latter in the opposite dugout, having hung up his boots a long, long time ago.

For DC, Prithvi Shaw seems to be in good touch at long last and David Warner was looking quite good. Rishabh Pant is well and truly back, which is probably great news for DC as well as Indian cricket. Matheesha Pathirana is doing some extraordinary things again. Khaleel Ahmed is fast emerging as a pace option that India may not be able to ignore going into the T20 World Cup and to end it all, MS Dhoni batted, MS Dhoni hit sixes and the yellow fans were delirious, to the point that they seemed to not have noticed that their team just lost for the first time this season, that too by 20 runs. Almost exactly a year and 50 games since Thomas Tuchel took charge of Bayern Munich, he came up against his very first opponent as a Bayern coach Borussia Dortmund. Unlike his first game, Bayern fell to Dortmund for the first time since 2019 in the DFL Supercup, which speaks enough about Tuchels tenure in itself.
Goals by Karim Adeyemi and Julian Reyerson were enough for Dortmund to complete a 2-0 victory and record their first Bundesliga win away against Bayern in a decade. Here are some takeaways from what was an extremely painful game to watch:
Bayern was tactically outclassed and had no desire to win
Edin Terzics Dortmund team came into the game with a clear idea blocking Bayerns passing lanes incredibly well throughout the game, pouncing systematically every time a Bayern player had the ball and made a pass, forcing mistakes and targeting our weaknesses. When Terzics approach to the game is so much more functional and better than Bayerns, it speaks volumes about where the problem lies.
But Bayerns tactics (or lack thereof) were not the only issue, A fifth-placed Dortmund team played like they had something to prove and were fighting for their season, while the Bayern players played like their season was already over. Players were jogging and hardly pressed, especially in the second half.
Joshua Kimmich at right-back is world-class
Bayerns strategy of build-up through the flanks was smart because the midfield was quite clearly incompetent (more on this in a bit), but it would never have been possible without Kimmich dropping one of his best performances this season. Kimmichs constant balls into the box from almost any angle on the right flank saw him create the most chances on the pitch, a performance that one can liken to his games in the 2020 UCL run.
Fans must have missed watching Kimmich create threats and recover from positions that seem impossible this often in a single game, and he was the only reason Bayern came so close to scoring so many times.
And it’s baffling why Kimmich doesn’t see this. It becomes clearer by the day that his best position lies as a right-back, and not in defensive midfield this game only further proved it. If Kimmich keeps playing as an RB and dropping performances like these, he definitely deserves to stay.
Disasterclasses and why Aleksandar Pavlovi was sorely missed
Pavlovis absence saw Bayern opt for Konrad Laimer and Leon Goretzka in midfield, both of whom were uninspiring and frankly speaking, Laimer was really terrible at times. A presence similar to that of Pavlovi would have changed the game as Bayern wouldnt be so easily targeted in the center and would lose the ball less often, while still making forward passes. Pavlovi may be young, but he is quite important to this Bayern team already,
Especially for Dortmunds first goal, the fashion in which the midfield was so easily run over highlights the glaring hole in the midfield a real defensive midfielder who can win back the ball in these areas before the opponent ever gets to the defense.
Players like Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala, and Harry Kane all failed to make an impact, and simply could not find a way to finish the chances. Even Thomas Müller had an unusually poor game but was also substituted too early when he could have made more of an impact.
Bayern are not beating Arsenal
With all due respect, when a team led by Terzic can split Bayern open in such a fashion, a tactically superior Mikel Arteta with a stronger squad will do much, much better.
At the moment, the tactics are not working, the team plays like they are playing together for the first time, and there is no cohesion nor a desire to win. Everything that can go wrong is going wrong, and while its tough to accept, this team isnt coming close to beating Arsenal FC in the Champions League if things continue like this.

On the second day of the second Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, Sri Lankan batter Prabath Jayasuriya received an unexpected reprieve when three Bangladesh fielders combined to drop a straightforward catch in the slip. The rather comical incident unfolded as skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto stationed himself at first slip, Shahadat Hossain Dipu at second slip, and Zakir Hasan at third slip, each attempting but failing to grasp onto the ball.

Despite their coordinated effort, none of the fielders managed to secure the catch, leaving Jayasuriya to capitalise on his stroke of luck and continue his innings.

Jayasuriya had just arrived at the crease and was batting on 6 when he was dropped. He eventually stayed for 75 deliveries, scoring 28 and played a supporting hand to Kamindu Mendis, who remained unbeaten on 92 as Sri Lanka scored 531 in their first innings.
As Jayasuriya confidently drove the ball, the thick outside edge sent it flying towards Shanto stationed at first slip. However, what should have been a routine catch turned into a nightmare for Bangladesh as Shanto failed to hold on to the ball, causing it to ricochet into the air.
As the ball hovered above the ground, the fielders at second and third slip, Shahadat Hossain Dipu and Zakir Hasan, respectively, saw their chances to redeem the missed opportunity. Despite their best efforts, neither Dipu nor Zakir could grasp the ball, with Dipu missing a straightforward rebound.
Desperation filled the air as Zakir lunged forward in a desperate attempt to salvage the situation, but luck remained elusive as the ball slipped through his fingers, leaving Jayasuriya to breathe a sigh of relief.

On Day 1, another amusing incident took place when Shanto opted for a DRS for lbw against Kusal Mendis despite the ball clearly hitting the middle of his bat.
Sri Lanka eye series win
Sri Lanka had registered a thumping 328-run win over Bangladesh in the first Test of the series, and will look to clinch a series victory after a mammoth 531-run total in the first innings of the second Test. 
Despite the big score, no Sri Lankan batter reached a century with Kusal (93) and Kamindu Mendis (92*) scoring in the nineties. Nishan Madushka (57), Dimuth Karunaratne (86), Dinesh Chandimal (59), and captain Dhananjaya de Silva (70) all scored half-centuries.

Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals will be taking on each other in the 14th match of the IPL 2024. It will be the first home game for MI in the season as they will be playing at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The 5-time champions are yet to win a match in the ongoing league. While they have been competitive in both matches, the win has seemed to be reaching out of their hands. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals have had a good tournament till now.

The inaugural champions have convincingly won both of their matches. Against LSG, they scored 193 runs and won by 20 runs. Against DC, they achieved a 12-run win. While MI is yet to play a home game, RR is yet to play a game outside their home. It will be their first match away from home. Since 2018, RR has been one of the fewest teams to have a better record than MI. They would be hoping to continue the same come the game against MI at Wankhede Stadium. 
Both teams have some of the best players in the world. While RR has the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, Shimron Hetmyer, Dhruv Jurel, Nandre Burger, Trent Boult, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Yuzvendra Chahal in their lineup, MI features the likes of Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Tim David, Jasprit Bumrah, Gerland Coetzee, and many other talented players in their lineup. That promises to be a great match between the two sides.

Barcelona look like they are going to give Chelsea another headache this summer.
Back in the summer of 2022, Barcelona signed Raphinha from Leeds United and Jules Kounde from Sevilla respectively.
However, it was well-documented that Chelsea were interested in both of those players.
But in the end, they could not complete a deal for either and were forced to watch the winger and defender join Barcelona in the same transfer window.
Fast forward to now, and it appears that Chelsea and Barcelona could do battle with each other once again. Kounde has recently been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but the centre-back is reportedly keen to stay where he is.

Signing young players with high potential has been Chelseas policy since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over the club in 2022.
That does not look like it is going to change, but one youngster who they are thought to be interested in may be heading to the Spotify Camp Nou.
According to the Daily Mirror, Chelsea have been trying to sign Estevao Willian since October, but Barcelona are growing increasingly confident that they will win the race for the Palmeiras winger.
He will not come cheap, with the 16-year-olds release clause set at £51m.
There is no guarantee that either Chelsea or Barcelona will land Estevao in the next transfer window.
The same report from the Daily Mirror claims that both clubs would struggle to complete a big-money signing at this moment in time because of their financial records.
Chelsea do have players that they can sell to help the club with its situation.
Noni Madueke, for example, is starting to get a bit frustrated with his lack of game time, according to journalist Simon Phillips. That is one man who Chelsea could possibly sell this summer to make a bit of money.
However, getting rid of Madueke may not be the smartest idea. The winger has shown promise since arriving at Stamford Bridge and is only 22 years of age so has time to improve.
His fantastic goal against Leicester City just before the international break was just one example of what he can do when he is on the pitch.
