India’s women break multiple records in astonishing Test match against South Africa – CNN

So astonishing was the first innings of the Test between Indias women and South Africas women that multiple new entries needed to be made into crickets record books by the time India had declared on the second day of play.
In posting 603 for six before declaring in Chennai, India scored the highest total in womens Test cricket and became the first to surpass the 600-mark in first-class cricket, according ESPNs cricinfo.
The opening days 525 for 4 was the most runs scored by any team, men or women, in a days play of Test cricket, and the first 500-plus total on day one in womens Test cricket.
Shafali Verma was the standout performer in an unforgettable start to the one-off encounter, scoring 205 for the fastest double century in womens Test history. She also became the first woman to hit more than 200 runs in a day in a Test match and, aged 20 years and 152 days, the second-youngest woman to score a Test double-century.
Her partnership of 292 runs with Smriti Mandhana is the highest opening stand in womens Test cricket. Another partnership, between Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh accumulated 143 runs, the highest fifth-wicket stand in womens Tests.
Today, the ball was coming on well and my scores in the last three ODIs pushed me to just think one thing, that I shouldnt get out and I should play through the day, Shafali said, per cricinfo.
So the idea was to back my strengths, take some time, and find a way to stay at the wicket.
In response, South Africa were still behind Indias mammoth total after posting 266 runs in its first innings and reaching 232/2 in its second innings on day three with play still ongoing.

Kohli’s match-winning 76 in the T20 World Cup match against South Africa earned him the player of the final award, and Rohit led the team from the front with three half-centuries in the tournament, in which India remained unbeaten.
“It has been so amazing playing with them for so many years. We all will miss them but… this is the best farewell we can give them,” Hardik Pandya, Rohit’s deputy in the tournament, said after the win.
Roger Binny, who was part of the 1983 World Cup-winning team and is now president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), termed the two stalwarts’ exit a “great loss”.
He said it would be tough to replace them immediately, despite India’s good pool of T20 players in the Indian Premier League.
Kohli, 35, won his second World Cup crown after the 2011 ODI win under M.S. Dhoni, who also led India to title victory in T20’s showpiece event in 2007 at the inaugural edition.

Team India Stuck In Barbados Due To Hurricane Beryl: Report – NDTV Sports

After a grueling month-long T20 World Cup, the Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, is in the midst of celebrating their glorious victory in Barbados as Hurricane Beryl, a Grade 3 hurricane, approaches the island, threatening to trap the team and pose significant risks of flight cancellations. Sources close to Indian team have told the IANS that, “Rohit-led side is currently stuck in their Hotel Hilton at Barbados.” The team, originally scheduled to depart Barbados on Monday at 11 AM local time (8:30 PM IST), is now facing delays due to the impending hurricane. Their planned route was to New York, followed by a connecting flight to Dubai and finally back to India.
Even worse, the Hilton, where India is staying, is close to the coast and is probably going to be hit by a Category 3 hurricane. The hurricane is predicted to hit Barbados at midnight on Sunday or early on Monday morning.
Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley announced that Grantley Adams International Airport would close by nighttime on Sunday in anticipation of the hurricane, preventing any flights from landing or taking off.
However, it is unknown at this point if they will be able to board that flight, but should they become stuck in terrible weather, they could be left stranded in Barbados for a duration of 36 to 48 hours.
