3 knocks and 3 who struggled: The flipside of Barcelona’s draw with Manchester City – Football Espana

Barcelona were far from dominant against Manchester City on Tuesday night, but with a side largely composed of youngsters, there were largely encouraging signs from Hansi Flicks charges. A 2-2 draw could have been turned into a win late on, and the Blaugrana won the penalty shootout 4-1.
There were however some negatives. As per MD, Mikayil Faye did not play due to a knock from last week that he has been nursing, although he is expected to play at the weekend against Real Madrid. Meanwhile Pablo Torre and Vitor Roque were also said to have finished their showings with minor knocks, although they are not expected to keep them out.
Pep Guardiola (Manchester City coach): “I liked Flick’s Barça a lot. The season is long, but I liked them. Their positional game is extraordinary, the wingers act as wingers, the interiors arrive facing forward, the full-backs attack the spaces.” Via @mundodeportivo

The Brazilian was one of three less impressive performances for the Blaugrana too. None of the trio played more than a half of football, and at this stage of their preseason, little can be expected of them.
Vitor Roque
Amid intense speculation over his future, Roque still looked a little off the pace. The 19-year-old returned to training early to try and prove himself in preseason, but struggled to get into the game and was withdrawn at the half.
Hector Fort
Tipped to make the step up this season after impressive performances, he suffered against Jack Grealish, and much of Citys joy came down Barcelonas right. Not the first and not the last to do so, but a tough 45 minutes for the 17-year-old.
Robert Lewandowski
The 35-year-old striker turns 36 in three weeks, and is coming off an ankle injury that limited his participation at Euro 2024. He only returned to training a few days ago, so its not surprising he was not sharp in the final half hour, but he fluffed a chance to win it, being too slow to get his shot off, and was a notable step down from Pau Victor.

It is learnt that all franchises are in favour of a smaller auction and pushed for more retentions during the meeting which lasted over two hours at BCCIs headquarters in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Even before this meet, the house was divided on a number of retentions but most franchises wanted some sort of continuity before entering a new cycle of the cash-rich league.
Ahead of the pivotal meeting to determine the course of action ahead of the upcoming season of the money-rich T20 spectacle, a number of issues needed to be addressed including the number of players each team would be permitted to retain, the number of right-to-match cards available to each franchise, and the number of future of uncapped players.
It was just to hear all the different perspectives from all the owners. The Bcci has heard us and they will give us the rules by the end of August hopefully, Parth Jindal said.
Some people want 8 to 10, some want 4, so it is all up in the air, he added.
The auction purse was also touted as one of the most crucial agendas of the meeting, and as it stands, currently at Rs 100 crore for every team, there is a huge possibility of it getting a raise which could result in a change in strategies of both players and franchise owners.

There is plenty of talk surrounding a merry-go-round of marquee players ahead of the 2025 edition but if the Auction Purse gets a raise, the possibility of more and more players, even the established names, entering the auctions cant be ruled out.
Given the circumstances, the auction purse could be the one topic that might garner the unanimous support of the franchise owners, while stakeholders might harbour a difference of opinion surrounding other aspects such as the impact player rule for instance, which courted a lot of talk in the bygone season.
