Sanju Samson had a challenging day during the third T20I between India and Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Stadium on July 30. Samson’s struggles began during India’s innings, where he was dismissed for a duck, mirroring his performance in the previous match. India’s batting line-up managed to post a modest score of 137 runs.
The pivotal moment came in the 6th over of Sri Lanka’s innings. With Mohammed Siraj bowling, Samson had a chance to redeem his day.
However, it was not to be. Siraj delivered a full ball outside the off-stump, which moved away late, inducing an edge from Kusal Mendis. The ball flew towards Samson, positioned behind the stumps. It was a routine catch to his right, but Samson fumbled and spilled it.
The missed opportunity was a significant blow for India. Mohammed Siraj’s frustration was palpable as he had been bowling a brilliant spell up to that point.
The chance to dismiss Mendis early could have shifted the momentum in India’s favour, but instead, Sri Lanka continued to build their innings unimpeded.
At the time of writing, Sri Lanka are at 53 for 0 after 9 overs, taking full advantage of the reprieve.
