Infosys gets notice for alleged tax evasion of 32,000 crore

Infosys has received notice for alleged tax evasion of over 32,000 crore from Directorate General of GST Intelligence, according to a document viewed by Moneycontrol. The notice said Infosys is liable to pay IGST under reverse charge mechanism on supplies received from branches located outside India for the period 2017-18 (July 2017 onwards) to 2021-22.

Former IAS trainee Puja Khedkar intentionally changed her name to dupe UPSC and didn’t inform anyone about the number of attempts she gave for selection, UPSC said, during her anticipatory bail plea hearing. “This person has abused the law and process of law. The chances of her abusing the law are still there. She is a resourceful person,” said UPSC.
Microsoft’s new global outage triggered by cyberattack

Microsoft said a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack triggered the global outage that affected Azure and Microsoft 365 services on Tuesday. “An error in the implementation of our defences amplified the impact of the attack rather than mitigating it,” Microsoft said. The latest global outage came days after Microsoft’s global outage caused by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike’s flawed update.
Puja Khedkar’s UPSC selection cancelled, banned from future exams

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced that it has cancelled the provisional candidature of Puja Manorama Dilip Khedkar. UPSC has also permanently debarred her from all future exams and selections. Earlier, UPSC stated that she fraudulently availed attempts beyond the permissible limit by faking her identity by way of changing her name, her father’s and mother’s names.

After the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a threat to Israel, which it called “criminal and terrorist Zionist regime”. He said that Israel has “prepared the ground for harsh punishment for itself”. “We consider it our duty to seek revenge for his blood as [Haniyeh] was martyred in (our) territory,” he added.

An old video showing the now dead Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh celebrating the October 2023 attack on Israel has been shared online by the Israel War Room. “This was Hamas chief Haniyeh’s reaction to the Hamas massacre on October 7. He’s not celebrating anymore,” Israel War Room wrote. Haniyeh was assassinated in Iran, Hamas militant group said on Wednesday.

While Shukr was killed in an Israeli strike on Lebanon, Haniyeh was assassinated in Iran’s Tehran. Israel claimed responsibility for only Shukr’s killing while Hamas and Iran have both accused Israel of killing Haniyeh.

Ismail Haniyeh, assassinated in Iran’s Tehran, was Chairman of Hamas’ Political Bureau since 2017 and was seen as Hamas’ overall leader. The 62-year-old headed Hamas Founder Ahmed Yassin’s office in 1997. He was Palestinian Authority PM in 2006-07 and was designated terrorist by US in 2018. Haniyeh was born in a Gaza refugee camp and had an Arabic literature degree.
Withdraw 18% GST on life, medical insurance premiums: Gadkari to Sitharaman

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has written to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, seeking withdrawal of the 18% GST on life and medical insurance. “Levying GST on life insurance premium amounts to levying tax on the uncertainties of life,” Gadkari wrote to Sitharaman. Gadkari’s letter to Sitharaman was in response to issues raised by the Nagpur Divisional Life Insurance Corporation Employees Union.
