Ravi Ashwin bowls his way into the history books with his 450th Test wicket!

Ravichandran Ashwin, one of India’s most successful spinners, achieved a remarkable milestone in his career when he took his 450th Test wicket. Ashwin achieved this feat in his 89th match, making him the fastest Indian to reach this landmark and the second-fastest in the world after Muttiah Muralitharan. Ashwin’s 450-wicket achievement places him on an elite list of bowlers, with Muralitharan leading the pack, followed by Ashwin and Anil Kumble in third place. Muralitharan achieved this feat in just 80 matches, while Kumble took over 100 matches.

Ashwin’s 450th wicket came during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia in Nagpur. After winning the toss, Australia elected to bat and quickly lost both their openers in the third over. However, Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne steadied the innings with a partnership of 82 runs. After lunch, Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets in quick succession, putting Australia under pressure.

Alex Carey and Peter Handscomb then came to the crease and aggressively took on the Indian spinners, including hitting a four off Ashwin’s first delivery. However, Ashwin was not to be outdone, and he dismissed Carey, bowling him to the middle stump and achieving his 450th Test wicket. Ashwin’s remarkable achievement underscores his status as one of the greatest spin bowlers in the world and a key player in the Indian cricket team.

“R Ashwin claims five in the second innings to move to No. 2 in the highest wicket-takers list for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy”

Ravichandran Ashwin proved to be the star of the show during the third day of the first Test between India and Australia in Nagpur. Ashwin, the 36-year-old spinner, picked up a wicket in the second innings, helping India dismiss the visitors for just 91 runs. In the process, he accounted for the dismissal of five out of six top-order batters, with the last four all caught in front of the wicket. Ashwin took eight wickets in the match, ending with a match haul of 8/79. This performance moved him to the No. 2 position on the list of highest wicket takers in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Ashwin now has 97 wickets in 19 matches, surpassing Harbhajan Singh and Nathan Lyon, who both have 95 wickets each in 18 and 23 India-Australia Test matches, respectively. The top five positions on the list of leading wicket-takers in the Border-Gavaskar series are occupied by spinners, with Anil Kumble topping the list with 111 wickets in 20 matches. With 97 wickets to his name, Ashwin has the chance to become the second bowler in history to take 100-plus wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy if he takes three or more wickets in the second Test starting next week in Delhi. Ravindra Jadeja is also among the top five leading wicket-takers in the Border-Gavaskar series, holding the fifth position.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Ravi Ashwin’s outstanding performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia has led to a significant milestone in his career. By taking five wickets in the second innings of the first Test match, he helped India secure a resounding victory over the visitors. He now has a total of 97 wickets in 19 India-Australia Test matches, moving him up to the second spot in the list of the highest wicket-takers in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, just behind Anil Kumble. With the second Test match scheduled to start next week, Ashwin has a good chance to become the second bowler in history to take 100 or more wickets in the series if he takes three or more wickets. The fact that the top five positions in the list of leading wicket-takers in the Border-Gavaskar series are all occupied by spinners shows the dominance of spin bowling in these matches. Ashwin’s feat is a testament to his remarkable skill and talent as a spinner and his contribution to Indian cricket.

With a total of 10 teams participating, 74 matches will be played, consisting of a group stage and playoffs. The last time the IPL was played in this format was in 2019, as the previous three seasons saw changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2022 IPL final, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, set a Guinness World Record for the largest attendance in a T20 match. In the upcoming IPL 2023 season, each team will play 14 league matches, with seven games being played in their home ground and the remaining seven in their opponent’s home ground.

IPL 2023 Rules

the new rules and updates are introduced for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The new rules include the Impact Player Rule, changes in the playing conditions, and updates to the Decision Review System (DRS) among others. The following are the rules:

·       BCCI has introduced the Impact Player Rule in IPL 2023 season.

·       Team captains can now walk in with 2 different team sheets before deciding their final playing 11 after the toss.

·       Depending on the toss result, teams can pick their best 11 after the toss, instead of exchanging the teams before the toss as was the case in previous seasons.

·       The new rule has been introduced to reduce the impact of the “win toss, win match” motto in certain conditions.

·       IPL 2023 will have two DRS for each inning.

·       Players can now take reviews for wides and no-balls in IPL.

·       Upon a catch dismissal, the incoming batsman will take the strike irrespective of whether the batsmen have crossed or not, except for the last ball of the over.

·       If a team is unable to find their playing XI due to COVID-19, BCCI will try to reschedule the game later in the IPL 2023. If that’s not possible, the IPL Technical Team will look into the matter.

·       In Playoffs/Final, if a Super Over or subsequent Super Overs can’t be completed due to some reason, the team that has finished higher in the league will be declared as the winner.

·       There have been new updates in IPL playing conditions, including an over rate penalty of only four fielders outside the 30-yard circle for every over not completed in the allocated time, and unfair movement by the wicketkeeper or a fielder resulting in a dead ball and 5 penalty runs.

IPL 2023 Format

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season will see a return to the home-and-away format, with 10 teams playing a total of 74 matches in a group stage and playoffs format. Here are the details about format of IPL 2023:

1.     The ten teams will be divided into two groups of five.

2.     A random draw determined the groups and who plays whom across the groups once and twice.

3.     Each team plays 14 games in the group stage, facing the other four teams in their group twice (once at home and once away), four teams in the other group once, and the remaining team twice.

4.     The IPL points table system awards 2 points to the team winning a match, while the losing team receives no points. In case of a draw or no result, both teams will receive 1 point.

5.     A four-game playoff stage, following the Page playoff system, will be held after the group stage. The four games will be:

·       Qualifier 1: It will be between the teams ranked first and second in the group stage.

·       Eliminator: It will be between the teams ranked third and fourth in the group stage.

·       Qualifier 2: It will be between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator.

·       Final: It will be between the winners of Qualifiers 1 and 2.

What is Impact Player Rule?

The Impact Player Rule is a new addition to the IPL 2023 season, which allows teams to pick a designated Indian player or an overseas substitute player as their "Impact Player" during a match. This player can only be introduced into the game in certain situations, and there are specific rules surrounding their usage, such as being unable to act as a captain and the impact on players who are replaced. Additionally, penalty time will apply to the player off the field for the substitute, as per the playing conditions. Here are some important points about it:

  • The Impact Player Rule is a new rule introduced in the IPL 2023 season.
  • An Impact Player can only be an Indian player unless there are less than 4 overseas players in the Playing XI.
  • Only an overseas player who is part of 4 substitutes named in the team sheet can be used as an Impact Player.
  • Teams need to pick 4 substitutes along with the playing XI during toss time, and out of 4, only one can be used as an impact player.
  • The team captain will nominate the Impact Player.
  • An Impact Player can be introduced before the start of the innings, or after the completion of the over, or after the fall of a wicket, or after the batter retires anytime during the over.
  • A player who is replaced by an Impact Player (“Replaced Player”) can no longer take part in the remainder of the match and is also not permitted to return as a substitute fielder.
  • The BCCI confirms that an Impact Player cannot act as a captain.
  • Both teams are allowed to use one Impact Player per match. It is, however, not compulsory.
  • If a player gets injured while fielding mid-over, he can no longer take part in the match if the team introduces Impact Player to replace him.
  • In case of an injury to the impact player during the match, a substitute fielder is allowed to field in place of an injured player only if umpires are satisfied.
  • The substitute shall not bowl or act as captain.
  • Penalty time for the batting and fielding teams will apply to the player off the field for the substitute as per the playing conditions.

Conclusion

IPL 2023 season has introduced a major change in the history of the tournament by introducing the Impact Player Rule. The rule allows teams to introduce a designated Impact Player before or during the match, which can lead to interesting team combinations and strategic gameplay. Additionally, other new rules and updates such as the ability to take reviews for wides and no-balls, the rule for the incoming batsman to take the strike after a catch dismissal, and penalties for unfair movement by fielders and wicketkeepers add to the overall excitement of the tournament. With these new rules, IPL 2023 promises to be another thrilling season of cricket for fans all around the world.

Get Ready to Roar with CSK – Dhoni’s Back in Action!

Ahead of the IPL 2023 opener against Gujarat Titans, CSK fans were relieved to hear that MS Dhoni had recovered from an injury scare. It was reported that Dhoni had skipped training due to a niggle in his left knee, which had caused doubts about his availability for the match. However, it seems that he has managed to shrug off the injury and will be able to play in the match. This news will be a big relief for CSK fans, as Dhoni is a key player and a vital part of the team’s success. The opening match is always important, and having their captain fit and ready to play will give CSK a boost as they look to start the tournament with a win.

Relief For CSK Fans as Dhoni Overcomes Injury Scare Ahead of IPL Opener

Chennai Super Kings fans were able to breathe a huge sigh of relief as MS Dhoni had shrugged off an injury scare ahead of the opening match of IPL 2023 against Gujarat Titans on March 31, 2023.

Dhoni had led CSK once again that season as they aimed to add a fifth IPL trophy to their collection. Many had expected that to be the former India captain’s final season in the tournament as he geared up to return to Chepauk.

Dhoni was expected to be a key player for CSK that season as the team expected him to lead them to glory with his captaincy and batting skills. However, CSK and their fans were made to sweat on Thursday as reports emerged that their talismanic skipper could be a doubt for the opener against GT.

It was being reported by PTI that Dhoni had a niggle on his left ankle and had to skip training before the opener. But the doubts were put to rest as the CSK captain played against Hardik Pandya and his men at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday.

When CSK CEO Kasi Viswanthan was asked, he had told PTI, "As far as I am concerned, the skipper is 100 percent playing. I don’t know about any other development."

Dhoni’s fitness had been getting high praise from all corners with the likes of Shane Watson and Rohit Sharma saying that the CSK skipper could continue playing in the IPL for a few more seasons.

"I’ve been hearing for the last 2-3 years that this is going to be MS Dhoni’s last season. I think he is fit enough to play a few more seasons," Rohit had said in MI’s pre-season press conference.

Conclusion

In conclusion, despite the initial injury scare for MS Dhoni and some other setbacks, the opening match of IPL 2023 between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans proved to be an exciting affair. However, it was Gujarat Titans who emerged victorious in the end, winning by 5 wickets. Although CSK fans may be disappointed with the result, there is still plenty of time for the team to bounce back and make a strong showing in the tournament. It remains to be seen what the rest of the IPL season has in store, but with talented players and passionate fans on both sides, there is sure to be plenty of excitement and drama in the days ahead.
